World War II – 1943 the Allied Forces organize the operations in Italy to end war in Europe. After landing in Sicily, September 9 starts Operation Avalanche. British and US forces land in the region around Salerno, between Paestum and Maiori. The battles between the Allied Forces and the Germans lasted three weeks.

The Museum of Landing shows the military story of those days and documents of the following months, when Salerno was capital town of Italy during the war. Furthermore it tells the human stories of the British and US soldiers while staying in Salerno, their relationships to the local population.

Uniforms, weapons and unique military vehicles. But also photos and objects of everyday life. Like the mostly beloved toys and games in US in a Salerno landing version!

Not far from Salerno is the cemetery for US and UK soldiers lost during the landing and the following battles. 1854 tombstones for a long lasting memory.
